Symbolizes flow, new ideas, and prosperity. It is the source of life and is crucial for spiritual and financial well-being.
Fire (Agni)
Direction: South-East
Associated with energy, passion, and transformation. A balanced Fire element boosts confidence and brings recognition.
Air (Vayu)
Direction: North-West
Represents movement, growth, and communication. It governs relationships, creativity, and joy in life.

(Brahmasthan)
North-East (Ishan) - The Divine Zone
Element: Water | Planet: Jupiter
This is the most sacred and powerful corner of the house. It's the zone of divinity, wisdom, and tranquility.
- Ideal for the Pooja Room or meditation space.
- Keep this area clean, open, and clutter-free.
- Avoid placing toilets, kitchens, or heavy storage here.
The "Why": This direction receives the highly beneficial morning UV rays, which have purifying properties. Keeping it open and clean maximizes the intake of this positive cosmic energy.
North (Uttar) - The Zone of Wealth
Element: Water | Planet: Mercury
Ruled by Kuber, the god of wealth, this direction is crucial for financial prosperity and career opportunities.
- Perfect for placing a locker or cash box (opening towards North).
- Ideal for living rooms, and office desks.
- Avoid kitchens and toilets in this direction.
The "Why": The Earth's magnetic fields flow from North to South. Keeping the North open is believed to allow this natural magnetic energy, associated with prosperity, to flow into the home unobstructed.
East (Purva) - The Zone of Health & Social Connections
Element: Fire | Planet: Sun
As the direction of the rising sun, it brings in positive energy, good health, and enhances social relationships.
- The main entrance here is considered very auspicious.
- Ideal for living rooms, study rooms, and bathrooms.
- Ensure there are many windows to let in morning sunlight.
The "Why": The rising sun in the East is a source of vital energy. Having the entrance or large windows here ensures the home is filled with life-giving morning sunlight, which dispels negativity and promotes health.
South-East (Agneya) - The Zone of Fire
Element: Fire | Planet: Venus
This corner is governed by Agni, the fire god. It's the ideal zone for heat-related activities and represents health and energy.
- The perfect location for the kitchen and electrical appliances.
- Place the cooking stove facing East.
- Never place water elements like a borewell or tank here.
The "Why": This direction receives intense sunlight. Placing the 'fire' element (kitchen) here is a practical way to keep the area dry and hygienic, preventing the growth of germs and bacteria.
South (Dakshin) - The Zone of Relaxation
Element: Earth | Planet: Mars
This direction is associated with relaxation, fame, and legal matters. It should be kept heavy.
- Ideal for the master bedroom for the head of the family.
- Always sleep with your head pointing South for sound sleep.
- Avoid placing a main entrance or water bodies here.
The "Why": Sleeping with the head South aligns the body's magnetic field with the Earth's. This alignment is thought to prevent energy drain, promoting deeper, more restful sleep and better circulation.
South-West (Nairitya) - The Zone of Stability
Element: Earth | Planet: Rahu
This is the zone of stability, relationships, and skills. It should be the heaviest part of the house.
- Best location for the master bedroom.
- Place heavy furniture like wardrobes and cupboards here.
- Avoid entrances, toilets, or kitchens in this corner.
The "Why": This direction receives the harsh afternoon sun. Having thick walls and heavy items here acts as insulation, keeping the house cool and providing a sense of stability and groundedness.
West (Paschim) - The Zone of Gains
Element: Air | Planet: Saturn
Governed by Varun, the god of water, this direction brings prosperity and gains.
- Ideal for a dining room, kids' bedroom, or study room.
- Having a toilet or septic tank here is acceptable.
- Not the most ideal for a kitchen.
The "Why": As the sun sets here, this direction is not ideal for primary energy intake. It's suitable for secondary rooms or for placing elements that need to be 'contained', like toilets, without disrupting main energy zones.
North-West (Vayavya) - The Zone of Support
Element: Air | Planet: Moon
This is the corner of Vayu, the god of wind. It relates to movement, communication, and support from others.
- Excellent for a guest bedroom or a girls' bedroom.
- A second-best option for the kitchen.
- Finished goods in a business can be stored here for quick sale.
The "Why": This direction is associated with the 'air' element. Good cross-ventilation, often naturally occurring here, helps remove stale energy, symbolizing movement, change, and support.
Center (Brahmasthan) - The Cosmic Core
Element: Ether/Space
This is the central, holiest, and most powerful zone of the house. It should be kept open and light.
- Should be free of any heavy objects, pillars, or walls.
- An open courtyard or living area is perfect here.
- Avoid placing toilets, kitchens, or staircases in the center.
The "Why": The center of the house is like the lungs of the space. Keeping it open allows for the free circulation of light, air, and energy throughout the entire home, ensuring overall harmony.

Vastu Myths vs. Facts
Debunking common misconceptions with expert knowledge.
Fact: This is one of the biggest myths. A south-facing entrance is not bad for everyone. For people in certain professions (like media, sales, or the army) or with specific astrological charts, it can be very auspicious. The key is to correctly apply other Vastu principles, like ensuring the main door is in a positive pada (step) of the southern zone.
Fact: While constructing a new home is the best time to apply Vastu, almost all Vastu defects (Dosh) in existing properties can be corrected without any demolition. Modern Vastu relies on powerful and scientific remedies like using specific metals, crystals, colors, mirrors, and pyramids to balance the energy, which are non-destructive and cost-effective.
Fact: Thorny plants are believed to carry a sharp, piercing energy which can create discord if placed inside the house. However, Vastu recommends planting them outside, near the entrance or boundary wall, as they are excellent at deflecting negative energy and act as a protective shield for the home.

Simple solutions to correct common Vastu imbalances in your space.
Defect: Toilet in the North-East
Remedy: Place a Vastu pyramid on the outer wall of the toilet. Keep the toilet door closed at all times and place a bowl of sea salt inside to absorb negative energy.
Defect: Kitchen in the North-East
Remedy: Paint the kitchen walls in shades of yellow or light brown. Place a Siddha Vastu Kalash in the corner to minimize the negative effects of the fire element in the water zone.
Defect: Main Door in the South-West
Remedy: Place two Hanumanji tiles on the outside of the main door. Install a Vastu pyramid on each side of the door frame to protect the home from negative entries.
Defect: Mirror reflecting the bed
Remedy: A mirror reflecting the bed can cause health issues and discord. The simplest remedy is to cover the mirror with a cloth while sleeping or reposition it.
Vastu for Different Property Types

- Common Walls: Avoid having the head of your bed against a wall that has a toilet on the other side.
- Balcony: Balconies in the North, East, or North-East are excellent as they allow positive energy to enter.
- Staircase/Lift: Avoid buying a flat where a lift or staircase is directly in front of the main door, as it can cause energy to dissipate.
Key Vastu Tips for Independent Houses
- Brahmasthan: The center of the house should be open to the sky (like a courtyard) or at least be kept completely free of obstructions.
- Boundary Wall: The boundary wall should be higher and thicker on the South and West sides compared to the North and East.
- Water Source: A borewell, underground water tank, or swimming pool is best placed in the North-East zone.
- Garden: Plant large, heavy trees in the South and West to block harsh sunlight and negative energies. Smaller shrubs are ideal for the North and East.

- Owner's Cabin: The business owner or CEO should occupy a cabin in the South-West, and sit facing North or East.
- Reception: The reception area should be in the North-East or East, with the receptionist facing North or East.
